Obsession

Road trips and weekend adventures are incomplete without a camera in hand. The click sound is what makes such long awaited and thoroughly planned vacations complete.

No matter which group I travel with... no matter how many people the group is composed of... or the average age of peers... or the location being explored... or the time of the day... or any other simple silly stupid scenario... the device that makes the click sound either:
1. sticks to my hand,
2. hangs around my wrist, or
3. dances around my waist.

As a result, very few clicks are targeted towards me.

This very disappointing factor encourages me to engage in some very non-unimaginable craziness.

When bored - and this happens often - and tired of the routine of fighting boredom - that consists of (a) watching movies, (b) playing games, (c) surfing the net, (d) chatting, (e) online social networking, (f) sleeping, (g) eating, (h) reading [?!] - the clicking device again mysteriously find its way towards me, my hand, my mind! And I - quite non-surprisingly - end up clicking my own photographs.

I assume, everyone would agree with me in saying:
self-clicked photographs look really bad

Yet, we all do it! Some do it more frequently than others. And I probably belong to the 'more frequent' category.

  1. Yes, self-clicked photographs do suck ! Ask me. But then, some people somehow manage to look good in them too.
    Vaise there are times in roadtrips when the 'clicking device' is handed over to fans and the 'superstar' poses to get a number of pics clicked.

  3. Do I even need to say that I do share this self-clicking passion? I gave away my cam to my bro during the Ladakh trip, and since then have hardly indulged in this activity. :)

  4. Thats very interesting. What is good about capturing moments?.. I would better live them than click them. People who click too often give me the feeling that - this is the highest point in their life in a long while and they want to recall it again and again by capturing it. hehe.. funny thought but thats the way I think.

    Indeed. But that is also out of self-interest. After all, how many 'self-clicked' pics can one be happy with?

    @Amrit
    I know you do, and you are good at it too!

    @Ashwani
    Maybe some people consider everything both worth living and worth capturing.

    Really, an interesting thought. And in case your 'thinking' happens to be true, I think I would be happy for the 'clicker' ... at least he's happy, and happiness that follows a long interval of nothing is really worth capturing. There's nothing wrong with the 'clicker' here, but of course, we can not prevent people from having opinions :)

  7. the picture in this post is amazing. If I didn't know you or the blog, i would have thought its a cover of a novel... its mundane in a way but very nicely shot and has a very good texture.

  8. Hmm... Thanks Chirayu! Of course, the original piece wasn't like this, it took some editing. But, yeah... I never looked at the pic the way you described, certainly not like a 'novel cover'
